Who We Are

Rising Phoenix Counseling Associates is a Community Based agency seeking to eliminate barriers in mental health services for people of all backgrounds: We specialize in counseling health services for adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families. All therapists hold Master level degrees in counseling and numerous years of experience. We specialize in mental health, grief, trauma and anxiety resolution, sexual abuse, domestic violence, LGBT and other areas.


 We provide individual, couples and family counseling in office, virtually and in home. Our therapists have extensive experience with diverse members of the community. It is our belief that all members of society deserve competent and compassionate care.

Sherie J. Posie – MA, LPC

Clinical Director / Lead Counselor

My name is Sherie Posie. I am the fully licensed Clinical Director of and Lead Counselor for Rising Phoenix Counseling Associates. I have over 13 years of experience, specializing in Mental Health, Psychology, Counseling and Human Services. Compassion and empathy are an integral part of the therapeutic process. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I guide my clients to improve their lives by developing and maintaining strong cognitive and emotional skill sets; All while coaching them through obstacles of adversity. My vision is to be a global-change agent – closing the gap of mental health between communities of color, women, LGBTQ, Seniors and other underrepresented groups by providing access to healing. Jenifer N. McNutt – MA, LLPC

Assistant Clinical Director/Counselor

My name is Jenifer McNutt. I am the Assistant Clinical Director and a Counselor for Rising Phoenix Counseling Associates. I have an experienced background in Social Services and Counseling working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds. My principle approach to counseling utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy lens to guide and support the needs of my clients. Seeking help is a courageous and dignified decision. While it may not be the easiest choice, it is an important step in understanding more about yourself and your story. I look forward to listening and witnessing you further your personal growth and understanding. My intent is to establish a safe and healthy space to create options and develop new ways to manage and recognize your experiences. Together we can utilize resources and build skills to promote a balanced and empowered future.


Karen Sherman – MA, LLPC

Associate Counselor

I have experience working with various populations including adults with addictions and other mental health disorders. In addition, I facilitated and co-facilitated group therapy with children, adolescents and adults.

 

My primary approach to counseling is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with a focus on Reality Therapy. I firmly believe that all clients have the ability to change and take control of improving their own lives by learning to make better choices. I will focus on the client’s present needs and their current behavior while addressing their strengths and weakness. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist is critical to the counseling experience. In essence, my counseling style strives to establish a genuine and empathic relationship with the client while working together to minimize emotional and behavioral disturbances.


Derrick McCullom – MA, LLPC

Associate Counselor

Derrick Mccullom is a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor who possesses ten years of experience working with adults, children, and families of various backgrounds. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. Derrick McCullom’s therapeutic style of choice is humanistic person centered therapy. Through providing all clients with congruence, empathy, and unconditional positive regard the goal is to assist clients in striving to fulfill their own potential .
